I could not be any more excited to share with you this post ! I have finished my 2 big Christmas projects for gifts and they were so much fun to make !

I made activity tables for my niece and son, with tons of supplies to make some more for gifts coming up for my other niece etc . since I used some items I already had ill put estimate costs, but this is seriously a cheap, nice gift .

The price breakdown is per table.

Ikea table 8.00
Chalkboard paint  80 cents
Stickers .25 .
Modge podge . I had . home made . came to under 5 cents.
'wood blocks'- I had . got 200 at a garage sale for $1.00, I used 25 blocks each table-
Sticky Foam .75 each total each table ....


Now, you do not have to follow what I used. I would have used legos instead of the faux wood blocks if I had enough - You can use anything you might have extra of.

Instructions go something like this.

step 1. Decide how you want to divide the table. I Did half chalkboard- So I sectioned it off after measuring Half the table. I painted half and I let it dry about an hour. Then I added a second coat. and after another hour, I took the painters tape off. I actually never realized I didnt use painters tape. So i had to use some black tape to "finish the ends"It looks just fine, and you can not really tell.

Next I added the stickers for the alphabet and the numbers. I modge podged over them. so they did not come off.

Next I Freehand drew the "road" - this was easier then I thought, and I cut it out- I added modge podge to the back of the adhesive of the foam paper and then stuck where I wanted. That baby is not going anywhere- On table two- its for a little girl so I didnt go with a track. I put shapes - On both of them I used puffy paint to 1.label the shapes and 2. put the names of the roads.

After that I had to decide what I wanted for the third part. I knew I wanted something like legos or blocks, but did not have enough and I didn't want to wait to finish it.
So I found some of the foam "wood" blocks and tacky glued. I placed glue on the table, the bottom of the "block" and the side- so each block is glued together. I did this two nights ago, and this morning I wanted to make sure they were sturdy-- they are. I literally lifted the table up by the glued blocks.

My husband and I are very excited about this table. For all the "writing" on the roads etc. I used puffy paint to give some dimension. This is a very easy project, and its totally personalized and customized. I can not wait to make more for my other niece in March!

Holiday Presents under a dollar? Yes please!

This week I started on the "aunt and uncle" presents from Little guy- we never do this, but honestly, I wanted to try out my new home made modge podge- and I had some extra paint and wooden plaques left. I would be more excited if All my plaques were a decent size, but they seemed too small or big. In the end I chose the smaller ones and cut the pictures-


These came out to be around .50 a piece and here is how it breaks down:

Home made modge podge - 1.00 for the total bottle. I made 12 of these and used UNDER a quarter of the bottle. So about .02 each in modge podge
Plaque - Usually .59 but I always use coupons - so mine was.30
Pictures- I ordered a bunch at around .08 each with a 40% off coupon from walgreens.com last week
Paint- I always get the .59 cent bottles from Joanns and use coupons- so around .30 for the whole bottle. I got around 8 out of each bottle - making it around .05 each in paint, 

 Adding the metal piece for hanging would actually be around another .10 for me (package of 10 at dollar tree) but I think normally they are around 4 for 1.00 - I didnt add anything to mine, so that is out of the budget.

So yah.. Heres how it works. Its super simple and I made a bunch for my hallway this weekend too (I had alot of fun finding pictures, adding words etc)

1.Paint everything but the face of the plaque - its not that you can not paint the front- it just saves paint. (back is optional, I didnt because Im going to add year and his name)
2.Let dry - You may need a second and third coat depending. I only needed 1 coat with the black and pink- i used acrylic paint.
3. Once dry add modge podge to your picture back and the face of the plaque. - dont add too much or you will have a globby mess
4.Place picture on the plaque face- Let dry around 10 minutes
5.  Then take modge podge, apply coat to top of picture and onto the sides too. Since I was using Matte- I didnt really add to the whole plaque, but if using glossy, go ahead and do that so everything matches.
6. Let dry- when it does. You may add second coat if you want. I did.

Please note:
YOUR PICTURE WILL LOOK SMEARED AND YUCKY UNDER THE WHITE OF THE MODGE PODGE. Dont worry- it will be okay. I use a foam brush to do basically everything, and this is no exception.

Enjoy this project- I got the words on it by adding them in powerpoint or any other picture editor- then saving as PDF and sending to walgreens to be printed- it prints right with the words...

Creativity!

 

For All you crafting mommas out there... isnt this the truth... Although I have a job that tests my mind every single day, there is something so refreshing about being creative with my hands. I assume its like a contractor that works on building things.. Its nice to see the end result of something that YOU created... Even when its a total disaster.. I have found some of my greatest projects came from those disasters, because it gives me the chance to tweak what I was working on. 

Its like a story that the writer planned one way, and the ending even surprised them! 

So I found this picture and I love it. I'm thinking I will make a sign and hang it in one of my craft areas! 

make your own iron on transfer using scrap material..

Tonight I took those t shirts I got on sale and I decided to start a project I have been meaning to try. I made my own iron on transfers using scrap fabric and it was rather easy! here is a tutorial

You will need for this project

HEAT n BOND

shirt, onsie, bib or other item you want to apply this to

iron

scissors

pattern or stencil ( optional)

fabric

heat n bond. ultra hold

step one- this is ironing the paper side

 (Step ONE) To start, cut a piece of heat n bond smaller then your fabric piece. rough side to the back of the fabric, you can either iron ( no steam ) the paper backing side or fabric side. test your edges, they should not separate from each other.

(Step TWO) next if you wish to use a stencil or pattern flip to the paper side and start sketching. this will come off, so don't worry about making it pretty.- I free handed some circles, so You will not see a picture of that.

Step Three

(Step THREE) Once you have it sketched, cut your shape 

Step Four

(Step FOUR) Peel off the paper layer on the back. you will now have a clear back and are ready to apply to your clothes.

(Step FIVE) To prepare your clothing item, make sure there are no wrinkles. you can iron before if necessary. make sure you have mapped out where you are putting everything if you have more then one item going on the material.

Step Six

(Step SIX) Iron now on medium heat, no steam. iron until the transfer is completely stuck. no edges should come up.

you can now embellish if you wish with gemstones, pearls etc.







TIPS FOR THIS PROJECT:

*As far as how much fabric, I used scraps... but for all four shirts, I probably used a quarter yard total... Since you only use the heat n bond for pretty much exactly what you need, I used less then a quarter yard of that. You will notice they sell the heat n bond in many different sizes, styles etc. I have heard they have a large variety of iron on transfer paper but I felt this small package (1yd total) was the best way to go. This one is the type that you can NOT sew on over. DO NOT SEW OVER THIS! if you want to sew the edges, you will need heat n bond LITE. -

* If you are unsure about the fabric you are using for this and an iron, you can place a piece of printer paper or cardstock over the fabric or paper backing and iron through that. I used this for the bottom pink and red emblem, as it was silk material and I worried about it. It worked perfect!


Overall I really enjoyed making them , they were inexpensive and I can not wait to start trying on some children clothes !!!

TOO TOO CUTE! I was not feeling well yesterday, so naturally, I went to the craft store .... And the Red rhinestone crystals caught my eye. I knew I had a pair of baby girl sandals at home that needed a special something, so I had at it. I love these. and even better, they match all my game day stuff. I need a little girl to dress up during football season. I think of what a curse it would be to have a little girl right as the season ends, because by time it rolled around again, all  my baby game gear would be ruined by her grabbing and walking ;) Anyways, I have one pair, size one up for grabs at my etsy Store.

Mickey centerpiece tutorial

Mickey Topiaries-

You will need:

Black Paint - You can spray paint or use regular paint and use a sponge brush
Yellow paint, you need a very small amount of this
Red paint OR red pots (see below)
Pots- either ceramic or red- your choice of size
Small dowels
sytrofoam balls - two different sizes for the head and ears
Hot glue gun
Hot glue
Either tissue paper, fake moss, something to use as a stuffing inside. you will see this!

I was luckily able to use all dollar tree items due to the fact that I wanted centerpieces for tables.-The paint was bought at Joann's using coupons for around  .49 cents a piece. I used 2 black paints for all 15 and 1 yellow, and my pots were already red.

I suggest you try to find the already red pots, as that will save a couple hours to this project.

1- Paint pots red- if they are already red- GREAT you are ready to go!
2. attach the two smaller balls to the larger ball to make a mickey head and ears!
3. Stick dowel into the bottom of the head and then pull it out. Place hot glue on both the end of the dowel and on top of the hole you made in the Styrofoam.  - Its okay if you can see the glue, your painting over it
4. Place dowel into the mickey head and let it set
5. Once set. You are ready to attach to the pot- Place hot glue on the bottom of the bottom and the bottom of the dowel. Be generous with the hot glue! - You may need something to "hold" this... i placed tissue paper around it while it dried. (make sure not to get the paper near the glue at the bottom. You can also secure it with two small pieces of dowel. Just break them, stick them in the bottom in the front and back of the dowel (popsicle sticks would work too) this actually caused them to be much sturdier- i did it on the last 4.
6. Once set- You are ready to paint~ Take your black paint and start from the head and ears- Paint with a sponge, as i felt that was the best to put on styrofoam. You may need two coats (wait for it to dry full though) on the head and ears! - coat the dowel in black as well until about an inch under the pot's top! - you wont see the rest.
7. Use your yellow paint and place two "buttons" about half inch apart on the pot for mickey's pants!
8. Let dry~ and have fun. I placed mine on the food table, on the sign in, cake and the gift table!!!
its not a great picture, and I wound up changing the white tissue for yellow, but they are cute.
