I have recently brought out my baby k'tan again after stopping its use around my son's 1st birthday and felt I should write a review for all you mommas after 1 year of using it on and off.
My husband and I have worn my son everywhere from around our house to Disney as a baby (under 11months and then as a now toddler (22lb) we have worn it to the store, to the beach and in NYC. We really enjoy this specific piece of baby gear, and have used three other carriers during different times in his life.
In case you do not know what a baby k'tan is, it is a cross between a sling and a wrap and a regular front to back infant carrier. It meets the needs of most parents and provides great support throughout the body while baby wearing. It is versatile enough for mom or dad to wear - and even easy for grandma and grandpa to figure out- all of which I have listed, have worn our baby in this!
What I love about this carrier is that there is NO tying for the main piece. You can wear it like a circle scarf around your neck when running out of the house and then plop baby in tie the "sash" around both your waists for extra security. I once tried a moby, and due to being so short and admittedly uncoordinated, it didnt work well for me.
I bought this on clearence (came with a large sling part and small sash- which worked just fine for me) - I do wish It was a bit smaller, as I wouldnt need a large, but he has never felt insecure in the least to me!! You can buy at most retail places that are big on selling baby items, and the normal price is somewhere between 45$ and 65$ depending on the type. There is a mesh/cotton blend, and organic blend and the original, which is 100% cotton - there is also a range of sizes from xs to xl- which will fit up to a women's size 22
I never wore it as a sling, as he hated anything sling-like, and we always wore as a carrier front facing or facing the wearer- He always had a great time seeing everything or resting his head on our shoulders.
I love having my hands free to do what I need- and in the younger days, I wore him while doing dishes or laundry so that he could easily feel happy while I felt productive.
In looking at the website, I am confused, because they do not show all the ways to wear them that they show on my "insert" that came with the k'tan. For instance, there is no front facing on the website, and no back wearing, although my pamphlet has 12 positions, this has 7.
Either way, I love this product, and would love to hear about your baby wearing and what products you love and what products you hate!
and for fun---here is a picture of hubby wearing it........ wrong!
